How to properly use a teleprompter for your next video production.

Video and the internet have changed the way we communicate. But one thing has not changed: the impact of a human face in communication. Humans naturally connect with the image of a human face…whether in a video or in person. And many times, that face on video is talking straight into the camera…. And a teleprompter.

A teleprompter is a tool that displays scripted material in front of a lens, allowing a spokesman to deliver messages while looking directly into the camera lens. It’s an extremely useful tool.  With recent improvements in screen technology, teleprompters have become smaller and more accessible.

As useful as it is, it is not a magic bullet. There are a few techniques to make it work well.

It’s important to remember that a teleprompter is only as good as its script

Write your script to be spoken, not read. Use conversational language that works for the audience you are trying to reach. Shorter words are better, and so are short sentences..

Along with trying to speak to the audience in a language they understand, it’s also important for the spokesperson to be comfortable with the language. It the presenter is struggling with long sentences or unfamiliar language, the audience can feel lost.

There’s no substitute for practice. The more you practice and personalize the text, the more you’ll put meaning to the words.

Practice reading your script aloud. Take it into the bathroom, and practice reading it into a mirror. Change the language to match your speaking style. Make it yours.

A teleprompter can also be used as guide for an interview or testimonial, when the person being recorded is not looking directly into the lens.

Here at St Louis Video Production, we have a lot of experience helping clients be “the best they can be” on camera. For more information, please give us a call.

Outline your ideas to create a marketing or training video

Here are the best questions to plan for your next marketing or training video production.

What is the purpose of your video?
Who is your audience?
What is your relationship with the intended audience?
What is the delivery path for the video?
What measurable outcome are you looking to achieve?
What do you want to say and show in the video?
What style and format of video should I use?

There are many different styles and uses of corporate marketing and training videos. Knowing what type of video you are producing and answering all of the above questions will help to determine the proper length for the intended corporate video.

Create videos that are compelling, that create emotional resonance with the viewer, that explain the essence of the product or service you’re marketing, and your viewership and engagement will follow. Also, keep in mind that social media algorithms are changing constantly.

Video Production for Human Resources – Diversity and Inclusion

One of the biggest challenges in launching successful diversity programs is the disconnect between diversity and inclusion. Diversity represents a minority group; women, people of color, and LGBT individuals. Inclusion ensures the success and integration of these individuals in the organization, on multiple levels. Ensuring not only diversity in the workplace is present, but rather implemented through inclusion is a key driver to ensuring success in a Diversity program.

Employees and managers need to prioritize diversity as much as they do other business concepts like productivity, efficiency, and profits. Overcoming these challenges requires a variety of top-down business practices to raise awareness of and actively promote workplace diversity

A corporate diversity video is a great way to communicate the company’s diversity goals and challenges to all employees while telling powerful stories that illustrate best practices of inclusion and cross-cultural empowerment and understanding.

Video Production Testimonials

Customer testimonial videos are a great way to let your customers do the talking for you. Putting your most successful, happy, or unique customers on screen is a powerful way to attach a real-life narrative to your product or service. Customer stories typically feature one or more customers talking testimonial-style about how your company has made a positive impact on their life or business.

The most valuable part of a customer story video is getting your customers to vocalize the problem they were faced with and how your company provided a solution. Along with interview footage, this type of video is typically packed with lifestyle shots of your customer using your product or service in their own environment.

St Louis Video Production Crews | Corporate Communications

Every corporation has a message.  To make it known they need a short introductory piece that explains who they are and what they do.  In a short period of time, people can tour your facility, get to know your staff, and get a strong feeling for what makes you unique.

But for years, making a corporate video—what used to be called an industrial—was a huge expense when compared to how many people might see it: no one is going to take the time to watch that DVD, and you don’t get many visitors to your actual location.  But today, every company has a website, and people can visit you at all hours of the day and night.  It’s a huge liability NOT to have a strong piece of media that explains what your company’s vision and goals, and what sets you apart.

We’ve made every type of corporate and industrial video or film imaginable, and look forward to showing you what we’ve done.

Video Crews for Your Customers on Camera | NASA Scientists

Selecting a proper location is important when videotaping your customers, we make sure it has the following attributes:
Sufficient natural light, or enough space to use artificial lighting that we provide.  Minimal background noise from HVAC systems, neon lights, nearby elevators, noisy hallways, and office workers. Sometimes a little background noise from other office workers can be a desirable feature that adds a sense of vibrancy and activity to a scene.  We try to distance the interview from floor traffic. Lobbies can be a great location, provided that people aren’t getting off elevators every few minutes and walking through your shots.  We’ll setup enough physical space for our equipment, our subject, and the camera crew. We’ll get the right footage you need to make your video message a success.

We’ll help you define your target audience

Marketing is about positioning and communicating your unique value to a very specific audience. Your product or service won’t appeal to everyone. In fact it probably won’t appeal to that many people at all. You have to ensure that you craft a message that is tailored to the specific concerns of a very well defined audience.  That sounds risky because if you narrow the focus of your message you have to leave stuff out. The only thing riskier than that is leaving everything in.

We’ll help you show and tell

Video is by far the fastest growing marketing tactic in use today because it informs and persuades better than any other media type. Video is a visceral experience that engages the audience both visually and orally. Why just explain how your product works when you can actually show people using and benefiting from that product? Video is gaining popularity because it is the best means of conveying a great deal of information quickly to your audience.

We’ll help you focus on your customer

Your customer wants to know how you can solve their problems – that’s what matters to them.  And yet the vast majority of corporate videos today are still not written from the customer’s view point, we’ll help show you how.
